Helping at Kent’s parents

We were parked at mom and dad’s small farm for five weeks. Our time started out with Kent preaching at mom and dad’s church. He did a great job! Mom and dad were so proud of him. Our dear friend Ed Karber also came to hear him and my neice Jana. It was the first time Jana had ever heard him speak!

Since we do come to work around the farm, dad had some ideas what he wanted done. There were bushes to trim, trees to trim and even the grape arbor… the plum tree and the grape arbor were the last week as we had to first help harvest the crops. The plums weren’t as big of a crop as last year but the grapes were another good harvest.

After having lots of fruit canned when we left last year..I decided to buy fruit to can. So I bought peaches, pears and apples and canned them to my hearts content. With a good grape harvest I also made some grape jelly for us and for mom and dad. We also harvested the squash that are excellent for pies or breads etc. so I baked the one dad gave to me and froze mine…whatever I had not used to make a pumpkin soup that is. So besides the outside work, I was busy canning too. We are so grateful for the harvest and whatever Kent’s parents are willing to share with us. They also share a lot with the local food bank and other various friends that stopped by or that we shared the extra green beans etc.  It is fun to see how much joy the folks get out of sharing from their garden.

We also hosted Kent’s sister, her husband and her daughter and new husband with mom and dad for dinner one night. It was fun to be able to help and be there to take them to the Drs, stores, and even the YMCA and to several other outings. It was a blessing being there.
