Our Christmas

Kent and I started our Christmas with Ivan helping to put up our Christmas tree and lights when they were visiting over Thanksgiving. That was fun as we seldom get to do that together in their house or ours.

We also had a very nice time at our church with our friends. While Kara and Ivan were here we went to see our Pastors’ “Walk to Bethlehem” which tells the story of Jesus birth in panels and audible story telling in our pastor’s backyard. Also their street was all decorated for Christmas! Our Sunday School class had a wonderful Christmas party complete with the White Elephant gift exchange.

We then flew to Michigan to be with Josh, Teresa and Silas. We stayed at Teresa’s sister home for two nights. I helped some of the kids make some cookies and then all of them got to icing the ones they wanted to. That was fun!

Then we house sat for another sister in their large comfortable home. Josh had taken off several days before the holiday and they allowed Silas to have off one day too while we were there. Teresa worked until Christmas Eve Day. We had a great time talking, eating, cooking, walking twice in the pleasant weather and we all went with Teresa’s parents and a nephew to dinner and the Star Wars movie! That was fun!

Saturday before Christmas Kent and I, took Josh, Teresa and Silas to a concert of TranSiberian Orchestra. We first went to eat at a very delicious Mediterranean restaurant then to the concert! We had heard their music for years but didn’t really know how the concert would be. We were in a brand new arena and in the nosebleed section… when we arrived to find our seats… Silas and I felt a bit dizzy at first! But once things started it was fine! We enjoyed it but were very glad that someone had suggested ear plugs as we adults all used them and heard just fine! The lights, music and pyrotechnics was amazing! I liked that they told a nice Christmas message along with the pop rock music. The light show was phenomenal and Silas afterwards said he liked the “Spaghetti lights the best!” It was a nice evening! We were surprised that even though their name says orchestra… there were few real orchestra players… but they sounded like an orchestra! Interesting experience! After the concert Josh walked us around the downtown a bit as he works in one of the buildings nearby. It was full of all kinds of people and we even stopped for a drink at a small cafe. All in all it was a wonderful evening together.

Christmas Eve day we all were off and had a special breakfast of cheese blintzes with strawberry and blueberry fruit topping. Delicious! We then played a card game and watched the snow softly flying outside. It only accumulated 5 inches and was very dry, so no snow ball making. Silas went out to make a snow angel though. We did go to Teresa’s father’s church for Christmas Eve service. That was nice as several of Teresa’s family were there. Afterwards we went back to Teresa’s parents for a bit of a snack and to visit some.

We left Christmas Day to fly back to Phoenix. Getting home on Christmas evening was very nice! For New Year’s Eve we had a neighbor couple over for snacks and games. So that was our Christmas …praying that you had a wonderful Christmas with your family and Friends!
