Discoveries about my family

A few months ago I made a discovery about my father’s family… they have been here since before 1701. I found an old will dated from 1701! I was so excited about this and other discoveries that I was wanting to find at least some of the graves of more recent family members on my dad’s side.

I also had found out that my grandfather had 25 siblings. There were at least two mothers and possibly three. But he was the oldest of the family… and something must have happened that caused a rift in the family… as I had never visited and hardly ever heard of any of my dad’s uncles and aunts…and as he had plenty of them something must have caused this problem.

So we found my grandfather’s grave..I did know him a little but we were not close.

We also were able to find a great uncle.. one of my dad’s uncles.

He just passed away in 2013. I was so sad to realize that I could have known him but because I didn’t realize he was even a relative I had no opportunity to know him. It was an exciting day though and I will keep looking into my family history. Somewhere I am sure there is a preacher or missionary in my family line somewhere. But for the most part they were farmers and I also found an Inn keeper that had an Inn in the early 1700’s.

I also went to visit my parent’s and sister’s grave, all at the same cemetery. It was nice to see their graves are being cared for.

My maternal grandparents are also buried at this small country cemetery.

Gratefully,
