Tucson, Arizona

January 23, 2019

We got to park behind a church in Tucson, for about five weeks in December. We were able to help a church here, but it was a bit limited as the Christmas season was here too! We do have a retired WorldVenture missionary at this church, so that helped us make connections really fast too. We went to prayer meetings, met the interim pastor, met with mission committee members, missionaries and made some new friends. It was a blessing to be here these weeks.

We have been able to park on the church’s property and have full hook ups, which is a real blessing. We then relocated to another town in Arizona where we plan to help and encourage the body of Christ as well! Kent is continuing to work with candidates too.

HEALTH UPDATE

For some months now I(Jan) have not felt well, I was absolutely exhausted even as we traveled many days this summer. Once we got back to Arizona, I went back to my dr and he told me my thyroid was only functioning at half and my endocrine system as well. He put me on medicine for the thyroid and supplements for the other. I still had so little energy!

I thought I was starting to get better, but one afternoon about a week after our trip to the Northwest.. I started having chest pains.. and it got so bad that we went to the Emergency room for the first time! As soon as they attached the leads to my heart for the EKG and I could hear the heart rate, I knew I wasn’t having a heart attack at that moment, but perhaps I had before. They did blood tests and a chest X-ray in case the pain was pneumonia, but none of that showed anything. It didn’t seem to be a panic attack which also can feel that way. So they gave me some mylanta and we went home.

Since I had a cardiologist appointment 2 days later, we decided to wait until then. The cardiologist saw me and sent me for some tests all that came back good. He suggested along with my regular dr that it had been a gall bladder attack! Soo we were grateful for the heart checks and glad it wasn’t that.

And then I had to have another blood test checking for cancer cells.. which I have done since my cancer surgery 20 months ago. These tests have been good all along but we want to keep a watch and this time they were a bit higher but still in the safe guidelines. Please pray that God will give me back my strength and health!

After all of this, I am ready to meet spring with a renewed spirit and hopefully renewed health too. We are so grateful for your prayers for us and for safety in travel and for continued strength for the ministry God has before us!

Christmas

January 9, 2019

Our son, Josh called us a few weeks before Christmas and invited us to join his family for a Christmas trip to Knoxville, Tennessee… we were going to see a play there called “The Unusual Tale of Mary and Joseph.” Sooo we overjoyed to join them first in Michigan and then driving with them and celebrating Christmas in Knoxville, Tennessee. On our way to Knoxville, we all stopped to see Kents’s brother Ron and wife and had a delicious dinner with them before continuing our trip.

We all got to explore Knoxville together. Checked out a craft fair and Farmers market. We saw a man playing a drum that he’d made at the fair. Teresa had found us a nice house close to a neat park that we enjoyed a long walk in. Our weather was so nice for the whole time too! We all helped make some peppernuts, a family tradition cookie.

And Silas made us an apple pie for our family dinner. So we sure had a great time together and enjoying a Tennessee Christmas. And the play of course, was a highlight. It was fun to have some VIP seats as Josh and Teresa have some strong connections with the play’s director. It was a very unique view of the Christmas story. We enjoyed but forgot to take a picture😒!

We also got to spend a little time with Teresa’s sister’s family and children too. You will see a picture of the four nieces at a table where they were coloring a butterfly. And also Ari showed me a little finger play. We have known these kids for their whole lives and love them too! It is always a joy to be with our family!

Our daughter Kara and family were with her husband, Nick’s family for Christmas this year. We do thank God for the many years we have celebrated Christmas with our children in many different places. I put together a short video to give you a small idea of our family celebration.

We pray that you also had a good Christmas and will have a wonderful Happy New Year!

Gratefully,
