A fun day “ Joy riding” in the desert with friends

Yes, we went joy riding, but in our friend’s desert machine. I think it is called “The General” by Polaris. It is a four seater vehicle with seatbelts, windshield and even cup holders. It is very comfortable even when going over very rough terrain. We had a blast!

Our friend Dwain took us. His wife, Debbie is at a Gourd festival where people carve gourds into beautiful works of art! So we went with Dwain and two other men in a separate vehicle, a 2 seater Can Am . I got some pictures of them.

After getting gas, we took off across the desert.

Dwain knew where we were to meet up with the others. We drove on “trails” although some of the time Dwain decided to do a different trail. He was cautious enough and downshifted when necessary to climb a bit easier. The desert is starting to blossom. There were yellow Bottlebrush in bloom and I also saw some pink Penstemon as well as a variety of other desert plants.

We stopped for a late breakfast at a smallish diner and then back on the trails. We even saw some mines, Dwain knows about mines and said they were probably not gold mines though.

The scenery was great and it was a warmer day so much more enjoyable, although we did layer up with coats etc because of there were no windows in the vehicle. We did get dusty, as my water bottle here shows.

This was clean when we started. I didn’t even realize how the dust was collecting!

We drove some trails along a canal of water. This video shows the other vehicle going along the other side of the canal. This appears to be upside down. And I can not fix that, BUT when you press play or the arrow.. it plays properly! It shows you how fast we were going on this part of the trail.

We stopped at an old cemetery.

The oldest date we could make out was 1924. It reminded me of the Wild West the way the graves looked.

I climbed to the top of the hill where there was a cross. Going up wasn’t so hard but coming down with loose rocks all around my feet was harder. I went slowly and held on to the rocks and scrub bushes to make it down. View from the top..

After stopping here we went looking for some old mines. Again the desert scenery was beautiful!

I made a video to show you a bit more of what we saw. There is a lot of farming around Yuma, mostly salad stuff and broccoli and cauliflower. Beautiful green fields stand out in the desert landscape.

Thank You Dwain! For a full and wonderful day!

Love, Jan for the Roaming Reimers
