Celebrating our grandson’s 4th Birthday

November 17, 2018

We got to help celebrate our youngest grandson’s 4th Birthday! We met up with the family in Arizona where they had come to see some of Nick’s family. We were so blessed to have and day and half with them. Nick had to work so Kara, Kent, Ivan and I had fun! We went to the science museum. It was was great fun and Ivan found a lot of things to show grandpa! Such as laying on a bed of nails, dancing metal flakes to music, kicking digital creatures etc.

It was fun having this time with them! We met up with Nick and had a delicious Ethiopian meal and a free tiramisu for Ivan’s birthday meal with us! What a wonderful blessed treat!

Arriving in Arizona

November 15, 2018

We arrived in Arizona one day before my birthday. We like to be close enough to a big city to enjoy the free things to do. Did you know that on your birthday you can have a free grand slam at Denny’s? All you have to do is show I’d that had your birthdate on it! We also went to Mimi’s Cafe for a buy one get one entree.. and Red Robin for a free burger if you sign up on their website! You should try it sometime? Look on the internet to know what you have to do to qualify!

Then we wanted to visit with several local pastors. Kent had lunch with one in Benson. We both traveled to encourage the pastors and their wives in Bisbee and Douglas, Arizona.

Douglas is on the border and even a border patrolman went to the church. It was and interesting conversation with him! These churches are doing well but all pastors can use some encouragement.

While driving to these towns we went through historic Tombstone! We stopped and walked the streets and saw the historic buildings etc. when silver was discovered nearby a town grew rapidly. It was once many thousand people here some sites say as many as 15,000. There was a lot of the “old west” feel in the town still. although a much calmer town than when the gunfight took place here between Wyatt Earp and the Clanton’s and others. Check this site out to know more about the town.

We also saw the town of Bisbee.. it was also a mining town but instead of silver it was cooper. It was still being mined into the year of 2000, but has now been abandoned. The town is a bit of a eclectic artisan community now and it seemed to me to be struggling to keep alive. This link will give you a little history.

Since we were going to visit and encourage pastors and their families,.. we didn’t do a lot of sight seeing, but we did stop to take some pictures of the mine and from the pictures you can certainly see the bright copper color in the soil.

A farewell and a celebration

June 28, 2018

Our dear friend Betty Jane passed into Jesus presence! We were all glad her suffering on this earth are over! Kent and I will be at the services for her tomorrow with the family. Kent is sharing at the graveside service which is just for the  family. It is a privilege to do that!

The very same day… Kent’s father turned 97! It was nice to talk to them.. he was making pancakes for breakfast as we tried to wish him a Happy Birthday! They have planted their large garden and are enjoying some things already. We are very grateful for dad’s health and strength. And for mom’s health too! They still live on, their own which is remarkable! We took this picture in this January when we visited them.

We are so grateful for both of these events. And grateful to God for great parents and also wonderful friends that God has placed in our lives! Take a moment to call, email, or text someone close to you…it means a lot to them!

Gratefully,

Thanksgiving

December 12, 2017

After the trip to Yosemite we took off and headed towards Arizona. We arrived on November 15th. Our daughter Kara and Ivan were already in Phoenix staying at her sister-in-law’s house. So a few days after arriving,  they came to visit us! It was a pleasure to see Ivan on his 3rd Birthday! We all ate at a Mediterranean restaurant… which Ivan loves too!

We had a blast having them with us and as Ivan remembered the pool and it was an extra hot November, we did enjoy the pool almost every day. Kara had borrowed a bike and all our neighbors were fond of watching Ivan go scooting around on his bike! Sometimes us adults had a hard time keeping up! Because of the Thanksgiving holiday there were a few other children in our park and Ivan soon had some friends that came on their bikes..

On Thanksgiving, Kara’s sister-in-law and husband invited us to join with the family at their house. Nick’s dad was also in town. I made three kinds of pies and potatoes and we enjoyed a delicious dinner together. It was fun afterwards to bounce a bit with the kids on the trampoline in their backyard.

Friday,  Nicks dad and neices ,two little girls came for lunch and to swim. On Saturday we hosted everyone with swimming and lunch. So it was a busy but fun time.

Nick left on Sunday to go back to work and Kara and Ivan stayed on and we enjoyed the pool somemore. We also went to Ikea one morning, and the wonderful Railroad Park in Scottsdale. Ivan loved the model railroads the most! We also went to see our pastor’s “ Walk to Bethlehem” and their streets lights. Ivan really enjoyed that too. And Kent and I just enjoyed being with them doing whatever.

My birthday

October 31, 2017

Yes, I had a Birthday this week!. I usually look forward to my birthday and Kent and I find fun things to do that the birthday person gets free…such as a free Grand Slam breakfast at Denny’s restaurant…all you have to do is show them your Identification.. also Red Robin restaurant if you are a part of the rewards program..you will get an email saying your will get a gourmet burger and fries for any time during your birthday month..Nice!

There are many other offers but since I knew we had to be moving our RV house this year I didn’t look for free offers.  So this year we had to travel on my birthday and that is usually busy enough.. we had to get to central California by Thursday for a marriage retreat that we are doing for the weekend… yes, we are the main speakers.. it is a bit scary as we have never done anything like this.  I will tell you more about that later..

So, when I looked ahead to my birthday, I was a bit depressed… you ask Why? Well, this year with my cancer diagnosis…kind of made a difference and also because of my four siblings that died of cancer, all before they were my new age! So, it sort of feels a little scary to start this year knowing that my siblings all died within two years of their cancer diagnosis..

Don’t get me wrong… I feel good right now and I have a good prognosis… but at times thoughts come into our heads even when we have lots to look forward too!

So, as I shared with Kent…he realized that I was feeling a little blue.. so on my birthday he bought me a dozen roses and a beautiful birthday card! What a sweet husband.. as he knew that I needed a little “lift”…. I am so glad for this man! It turned out to be a nice birthday after all!

Our grandsons birthdays!

November 28, 2016

Both of our grandsons have fall Birthdays.

Silas was first in September and he turned 11 years old already! He started middle school this fall and is just growing up so fast. We did get to see he and his mother  recently, so that was very nice!

Silas and I had a private movie night in our bedroom which we both enjoyed tons! And since Josh didn’t get to come, this is a picture of Josh picking them up. It is one of my favorites!

Then Ivan had his 2nd birthday! We can’t believe how much he has grown even since I saw him in July! He has certainly learned to walk and talk by two! He is discovering all kinds of things and mom and dad are sooo enjoying him.

We are so looking forward to seeing everyone again at Christmas!! We can never see our family enough but this year we got to see the kids and moms several times!! Yeah!!

We are so very grateful fir the blessing that our son, daughter their spouses and their sons are to us! Even though we don’t get to see them very often, we are close and God has blessed us as a family! God has definitely blessed Kent and I as parents for which we are very grateful!

May God bless you this Christmas season too!

My Birthday

October 31, 2016

It was that time of year again! I believe that you should celebrate, because that God has given you another year of life and influence! I always hear from our grown children usually just after my husband has wished me the first Happy Birthday of the day. This year our son got to me first thing and our daughter sent a video hello and good birthday wishes with her almost two year old son!

Well, the first thing after that we did, was go to Denny’s restaurant for my free birthday grand slam, which is two eggs, four pieces of meat and two pancakes. Well I didn’t want that much starch so opted for an English muffin instead and shared some of themeat with Kent..that was good. We then got some computer work done there. Then we stopped by Firehouse Subs and got a free sub for my birthday. I was glad to split that with Kent!

We then went back to our RV house and our friends Debbie and Dwain were there a few minutes later! They have a lot in Yuma, AZ and had invited us to come and see them there! We have been friends for about 7 years now and haven’t seen each other for about a year! They also have a big truck and big RV home and had been traveling back east this summer. So it was very good to see them and spend about 10 days together starting with my Birthday. We went out to Longhorn Steakhouse for a steak dinner dinner and it was delicious and I got to ride on a saddle while the waiters sang me a happy birthday song. We also went to Cold Stone Creamery for a free ice cream as well. Debbie and Dwain made it special by being with us today!

Thanks for all the wishes and I am so glad for another year of life and ministry!

Our son’s birthday

June 7, 2016

Our son Josh was born over thirty years ago, today. He was two months early and it caused my husband and I quite shock. Josh spent the first month of life in a NICU, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He grew and was able to get off the machines fairly quickly. We were thrilled for the July 4 th that we were finally able to bring him home from the hospital! A few months later we moved to Southeast Alaska the first of many other places in his life.

For 4 years we had been wanting to have a child so when Josh came early and with health challenges, it was just another obstacle to overcome. When God gave us Josh we were absolutely thrilled. When he could finally come home for the hospital we fought over who could change  his diapers! Hah most couples don’t say that, do they?

Josh has grown into a wonderful adult son, he is married to a great woman,  Teresa and they have the most special ten year old around. Of course I am a little prejudice! Josh recently graduated with his Masters degree. He has a great job that he is really good at, and he is a good father and husband.

Josh, did you know that they day you were born, your dad ran 9 miles! He was so excited! Me too! But my work was in the labor room!

We are so proud of you, Josh and so very glad that you made us a family! We love you and wish you a very special birthday

Ministry trips and family visits

March 1, 2016

January 14th saw us once again on a plane flying to the Northwest for a city wide missions event. It is always a pleasure to go to Mission Connexion but this year even more so. We had two days of non stop visiting with people interested in serving God in some way as a missionary. We had some great conversations and many prayers while trying to help those seeking to serve. Here Kent is listening to a young missionary to be.

0B63A6C4-9D29-48A0-8F94-F661CB96CC96

Thankfully we did have some co-workers that also were there to help. We are grateful for these conferences where God allows us to impact more people to join the missionaries worldwide.

After the conference we had decided to stay in the Northwest and drive to see Kent’s parents for a short visit. On our way to mom and dad’s house, we also got in a quick visit over dinner with Kent’s sister and husband as well as a lunch with some new friends also.

Mom and dad were doing pretty well, although there were several things we helped them with. Knowing me, you probably aren’t surprised that I went outside to the garden and other outdoor chores as Kent helped with inside jobs. We also got to stay with an old friend Ed and visited his wife in a nursing home too. We left mom and dad after two days to visit a first cousin on our way to our next stop.

We flew to Denver to be at WorldVenture’s Annual Renewal conference. This is held in January and is 2 days of prayer and a day with Bible teaching and worship, and the president speaks explaining  where we as a mission are heading. Then there were some seminars to help our missionaries deal with their lives and ministries abroad. It was a busy and almost non stop week but so good.

Another blessing is the we get to stay with our daughter and family during this time. Kara and Nick are always hospitable and we adored having a chance to see Ivan if only a little in the mornings. He was usually  in bed by the time we returned. So we did arrive the weekend before and stay the weekend after. We did get to celebrate Kent’s birthday with them while visiting Kara and Nick and Ivan. Ivan liked it as he clapped his hands for grandpa. Hah!

This year Kara and Nick were able to arrange a marriage retreat for the weekend after our conference..so guess who got to babysit Ivan? Yes, grandma and grandpa and we all had a blast!  Ivan did look around their house for mom and dad but then settled down to just grandpa and grandma. I think he was very glad to see mommy and daddy when they returned on Sunday afternoon too.

So God really blessed us on this trip! We are always grateful for any time to spend with our family. And little Ivan was just so adorable and fun! He truly is our “gift from God” as his name means.

Gratefully yours,

Jan for the Roaming Reimers

Our grandson, Silas has a birthday!

October 14, 2015

I can not believe it! Silas just turned ten. It seems only yesterday that he was a baby and toddling around, then running and jumping, riding his bike and then school. Where did these years go? Well, they flew by.

Silas just celebrated his birthday and there was a big family party and lots of fun and food. Oh how I wish we could be there for at least one of these birthdays…but so far we only hear about them. We also heard that he had a party with some friends and they got to go to on a fun outing. It all sounded like so much fun…  In this picture Silas is in the yellow shirt with one of his friends. The other picture is the van full of boys having fun…Silas is in the back with his arm up in the air. It sure looks like Fun!!!

Some other pics from this summers Silas’ visit to us.

Silas is having a good year in school and we praise God for that. He is a very smart little boy and especially in Math and perhaps Science too. He likes to read and I am always looking for books that would be of interest and encouraging to him. He so enjoyed camping with us this summer in Oregon. He played adult games and did very well. He loves to swim and playing with Legos.

Happy 10th Birthday Silas! we love you more than words can express and we pray that God will grow you into the man of God that He wants..and you will embrace God with your whole heart…

Love to you, Grandma and Grandpa R.
