And some more visits with dear friends, we are blessed with a lot of them!

September 22, 2018

Sooo another great visit. These friends Logan & Eileen we had met in Bristol at our church, 42 years ago also. They had moved back home many years ago after several company moves. So now they lived near Atlanta, Georgia. They always loved to camp… so I suggested we might be able to camp together, they liked the idea sooo that is what we did!

We reminisced about our one camping episode with them years ago, that ended a bit short as we were tenting it and the neighbors at the campground were more than noisy! Hah,

I picked a place this time that was a drive for them but less for us, near Asheville, North Carolina. We had a great facility but Hurricane Florence decided to come near us. We were blessed that we weren’t in the heavy rains while together though.

Again it was a great visit, but felt TOO short as we had not seen them for 9 years. They took us to Asheville and we all did a city trolley tour. It was a jump on/jump off kind of thing. We had a fun time going from site to site. We got to go to the Grove Park Inn, which is a fabulous resort where many famous people have stayed. We had lunch there and really enjoyed that as well!

So another great visit and sorry to see it end. Hoping we can see these guys somewhere”along the road” in the next few years.

Visiting friends and supporters in Tennessee

September 22, 2018

We lived for nearly 3 years in East Tennessee while Kent was getting missionary pilot training. It was an adjustment for Kent and I but we not only came to understand some of their customs but came to love the people and be loved by them. Our little church that we attended supported us as missionaries for many years. We made many long lasting friends that we treasure and still keep in touch with!

We always get to see and often stay with Larry and Yolanda. We have known them too more than 40 years. We always have a great time with them. We did get to go for a nice walk around a river. It is such a beautiful part of the country too!

And this year Kent had a bit of a maintenance issue on our RV house while we were there. Larry, his help and his tools were a huge help with that project too! Larry also arranged for a place for us to park during our stay…at a campground across from the Bristol Motor Speedway. The brother and sister who own and run this campground were so sweet and kind to us.

Kent did get to speak in our supporting church as well and we saw some of the people we’ve known for that long too! There were also a family that had left the area and then came back.. so we got to see them and their adult kids too. All of which we haven’t seen for a long time too!

I also got to visit with another missionary friend. Joan and her husband were the missionaries that welcomed us to the field in Brazil. Her husband passed away many years ago now. So I had lunch with her to catch up. She is the age that my sister would be (who went to heaven in 2000). And very like a sister to me too! It was a special time with a dear friend!

Grateful for great friends! And these long term friends!

Blessed,

More great visits with dear friends

September 21, 2018

This next visit was with friends that we met 42 years earlier. When Kent was training as a missionary pilot so were these men as well. Jan and Jim invited us and the other couple, Don and Claudelle to come and have a mini reunion at their home.

It was so fun to be all together and sharing what God had done in our lives. We had all visited each other some over the years but since we were from different parts of the country all three couples had not been together in one place for 42 years.

We did drive around to see the airport where the guys took their training and even Jim worked there for many years as well after some time in Brazil doing missionary flying. We drove to one of the local earthen dams and right by where we had lived for 2 1/2 years. Our little old house had been torn down and nice log house replaced it. It was fun to see the old neighborhood though. We also drove to see how the downtown had changed since we lived there. Not a lot had changed , although some different businesses in the stores than we had known. And everywhere we went we would stop and chat a bit as well.

Our time with the others came to a halt much sooner than I would have liked but we were scheduled to speak in our church there that had supported us for many years. So way too soon, Kent and I were leaving these dear friends again. Don and Claudelle stayed a bit longer and I was so glad they were free to do so.

God blessed us all with a wonderful fun time.. I only regretted not being able to set off fireworks as a bunch of the students had done at Don and Claudelle’s house many years earlier…

We are so grateful for these dear friends and maybe when we all get to heaven we will get to hear more of the stories of their lives as well.

Renewing acquaintances

September 20, 2018

42 years ago we met two couples who were also studying to be missionary pilots. We really loved these couples and have kept in touch over these intervening years BUT we hadn’t all been together since then..

So knowing that Kent and I would be in Tennessee where I thought they both lived near each other.. I contacted them to see if we could have a mini reunion. I had planned it in another city from where we had all lived, but when they got back with me..one of the couples had moved back to our original city where we had met and the guys had studied. Wow, and that couple even invited us all to come to their house to visit there. It was a little like when we all were there 42 years ago..without kids and just learning a lot of life and missions.

So that is what we all did. It was so fun to stay together and to hear the stories of the other couples and their lives since. We have maintained some contact but all of us hadn’t heard the way God had worked in each of the couples lives. It was interesting to hear and some of it was sad, as there were many hard thins the one couple had had to go through. It was so wonderful to hear of God’s healing and blessings on them since.

We also went to places around the town that we used to go to and just some places of interest and to the airport where the guys had studied.

I must say that I was sad to leave them all but we know we will see each other I heaven someday if not here on this earth. It was a wonderful time and thanks Jan and Jim for hosting us!

So grateful for these special friends!

Lancaster county, PA

September 17, 2018

I was born and raised near this area. This summer we had the privilege to live in the midst of farms and Amish families and beautiful old stone houses and barns. There was a barn we drove by most days that I thought was a beautiful example of the old barns of a this area…most that date back to 1800 and many to 1700 and some even earlier. I love history and had fun enjoying the history of this area again!

We lived where we heard the clip-clop of Amish horses taking their owners to and fro. It was a scenic and peaceful place.

Our last Saturday in Lancaster County, our hosts took us to show us around. They took us to see Zook’s Chicken pot pies, Emma’s Gourmet Popcorn, September Farms, Stoltzfus Meats , through a covered bridge, and an old Roller Mill and even to an Amish horse auction! We had such a fun day and ended our day by eating at Diener’s restaurant. I made a video of the pictures taken all summer that show the beauty of this area.

Please take a few minutes to enjoy the scenery and historic buildings! The last picture is of our host and hostess. Thanks Pam and Lee!

More visits with friends, family and supporters!

September 7, 2018

Our last month in Pennsylvania was filled with many more visits. 36 visits this month alone but in total over 75 visits while parked in Pennsylvania. We are so grateful for this time.

We also made a few more short trips. One to visit friends in New Jersey…the farming part. Our friends there had moved to a different house and we were glad to see that and be able to see two of their grown up kids.

We also go to visit some old family friends of my whole family. My family had lived beside this family before I was born, as my father worked in heavy construction and had helped build the older portion of the New Jersey turnpike. But we also had visited them throughout my childhood. Our whole family would come for the July 4th weekend and have a blast together. I had reconnected with this family back in the 90’s and have kept in touch since. It is always fun to meet up with them.

In driving from one friend to another we also got to stop and see the ocean for a bit.. we also stopped in Ocean City, NJ where I went a time or two as a teen. I had a lot of fun but also went because Youth for Christ had meetings and I grew spiritually too! Good memories!

We also had lived in central New Jersey when we were first married…on our way back to our RV house we drove by our first house. We also had worked with a small church in a rough section of Philadelphia while we were students at Philadelphia College of Bible. We went through that area of the city as well and were glad to know the church is still doing well. So this trip had a lot of nostalgia in it.

You can see that Kent took a picture of me standing by the ocean… it was so pleasant! I just love the ocean and enjoyed this little respite!

Visits from our grandsons

September 6, 2018

We also had an evening at our house with our whole family and a bunch of friends…when it was raining hard at one point we had 17 people in our small house..but we did fine!

After our 40th year celebration party where our family was here, our grandson Silas stayed for a few extra days. It was fun to swim and he got to play with nephews of our hosts in the pool too! We also went to a local farmers market, played on the trampoline and a fun place with all kinds of activities. We had fun doing laser tag together for the first time. Silas liked that best! But there were some arcade games and even mini bowling as well. We all went home tired from all of those games. But we were so glad to have Silas join us for those days. We met up with Josh part of the way to their home for him to get Silas so we would both share the drive.

The last day Kara and Ivan came and we had some time with them and Silas. Then Kara and Ivan stayed a few more days. We played on the trampoline, swam and even played in a playhouse that our hosts had for their grandchildren. One evening our hosts took us to a farm where they also sold delicious homemade ice cream. It was a great time and we ended that by a visit with our special friends so they could all see Kara and Ivan too!

A beautiful and blessed celebration!

August 28, 2018

After our two weeks in Colorado, we returned to our RV house parked in central Pennsylvania. 5 days later our whole family arrived and we had another wonderful time!

Our family had come to celebrate with us our 40th year in missions ministry!

One of our wonderful supporting churches had offered to host a meal and program to commemorate this event in our lives! The Evangelical Free Church of Hershey has been more than a supporting church, but more like a family to us and this was no exception! We had our family, several nieces and nephews and 2 cousins and aunt from Jan’s family and also one of Kent’s niece’s and her husband too. Also many wonderful supporters and friends. One dear friend and like an aunt to our kids drove from New Jersey to be there.

We both got to share a bit and a dear friend, Jack Winters and also Kara our daughter spoke. Soooo all that to say. It was a very special and memorable event!

Here are a few of the pictures from the event.

We felt very encouraged and blessed by this event and the leaders even prayed for us for more ministry. Praising God for these years and the kind of generous and kind supporters we have had!

Praise God with us!

A fun excursion

June 29, 2018

My mother’s siblings have gotten together for lunch once a month for about 10 years now. It is always fun to meet up with them at these lunches. Several of the siblings are finding it harder to come as my moms closest sister is over 90 and one brother too. So these special lunches are a real treat!

I did mention to my two aunts present at the last lunch that I wanted to know if any of them liked gardens like my grandmother, their mother did. My aunt Ethel immediately said she did! And in fact there was going to be a garden tour near me the next week! I said “ let’s go together!” And so it was settled.

We had a great time and went to 8 different gardens. I also enjoyed the older stone houses on the properties. There are so many old houses from around 1700’s in this area. We were a bit disappointed that there were less flowers blooming but that was due to the rainy weather this spring and not the owner’s fault.

We still had an enjoyable day with lunch in the middle to visit a bit more! I was so glad as I haven’t had time over the years to get to know Aunt Ethel all that much so this was a treat!

A farewell and a celebration

June 28, 2018

Our dear friend Betty Jane passed into Jesus presence! We were all glad her suffering on this earth are over! Kent and I will be at the services for her tomorrow with the family. Kent is sharing at the graveside service which is just for the  family. It is a privilege to do that!

The very same day… Kent’s father turned 97! It was nice to talk to them.. he was making pancakes for breakfast as we tried to wish him a Happy Birthday! They have planted their large garden and are enjoying some things already. We are very grateful for dad’s health and strength. And for mom’s health too! They still live on, their own which is remarkable! We took this picture in this January when we visited them.

We are so grateful for both of these events. And grateful to God for great parents and also wonderful friends that God has placed in our lives! Take a moment to call, email, or text someone close to you…it means a lot to them!
