More great visits with dear friends

September 21, 2018

This next visit was with friends that we met 42 years earlier. When Kent was training as a missionary pilot so were these men as well. Jan and Jim invited us and the other couple, Don and Claudelle to come and have a mini reunion at their home.

It was so fun to be all together and sharing what God had done in our lives. We had all visited each other some over the years but since we were from different parts of the country all three couples had not been together in one place for 42 years.

We did drive around to see the airport where the guys took their training and even Jim worked there for many years as well after some time in Brazil doing missionary flying. We drove to one of the local earthen dams and right by where we had lived for 2 1/2 years. Our little old house had been torn down and nice log house replaced it. It was fun to see the old neighborhood though. We also drove to see how the downtown had changed since we lived there. Not a lot had changed , although some different businesses in the stores than we had known. And everywhere we went we would stop and chat a bit as well.

Our time with the others came to a halt much sooner than I would have liked but we were scheduled to speak in our church there that had supported us for many years. So way too soon, Kent and I were leaving these dear friends again. Don and Claudelle stayed a bit longer and I was so glad they were free to do so.

God blessed us all with a wonderful fun time.. I only regretted not being able to set off fireworks as a bunch of the students had done at Don and Claudelle’s house many years earlier…

We are so grateful for these dear friends and maybe when we all get to heaven we will get to hear more of the stories of their lives as well.

Gratefully,

Renewing acquaintances

September 20, 2018

42 years ago we met two couples who were also studying to be missionary pilots. We really loved these couples and have kept in touch over these intervening years BUT we hadn’t all been together since then..

So knowing that Kent and I would be in Tennessee where I thought they both lived near each other.. I contacted them to see if we could have a mini reunion. I had planned it in another city from where we had all lived, but when they got back with me..one of the couples had moved back to our original city where we had met and the guys had studied. Wow, and that couple even invited us all to come to their house to visit there. It was a little like when we all were there 42 years ago..without kids and just learning a lot of life and missions.

So that is what we all did. It was so fun to stay together and to hear the stories of the other couples and their lives since. We have maintained some contact but all of us hadn’t heard the way God had worked in each of the couples lives. It was interesting to hear and some of it was sad, as there were many hard thins the one couple had had to go through. It was so wonderful to hear of God’s healing and blessings on them since.

We also went to places around the town that we used to go to and just some places of interest and to the airport where the guys had studied.

I must say that I was sad to leave them all but we know we will see each other I heaven someday if not here on this earth. It was a wonderful time and thanks Jan and Jim for hosting us!

So grateful for these special friends!

More visits with friends, family and supporters!

September 7, 2018

Our last month in Pennsylvania was filled with many more visits. 36 visits this month alone but in total over 75 visits while parked in Pennsylvania. We are so grateful for this time.

We also made a few more short trips. One to visit friends in New Jersey…the farming part. Our friends there had moved to a different house and we were glad to see that and be able to see two of their grown up kids.

We also go to visit some old family friends of my whole family. My family had lived beside this family before I was born, as my father worked in heavy construction and had helped build the older portion of the New Jersey turnpike. But we also had visited them throughout my childhood. Our whole family would come for the July 4th weekend and have a blast together. I had reconnected with this family back in the 90’s and have kept in touch since. It is always fun to meet up with them.

In driving from one friend to another we also got to stop and see the ocean for a bit.. we also stopped in Ocean City, NJ where I went a time or two as a teen. I had a lot of fun but also went because Youth for Christ had meetings and I grew spiritually too! Good memories!

We also had lived in central New Jersey when we were first married…on our way back to our RV house we drove by our first house. We also had worked with a small church in a rough section of Philadelphia while we were students at Philadelphia College of Bible. We went through that area of the city as well and were glad to know the church is still doing well. So this trip had a lot of nostalgia in it.

You can see that Kent took a picture of me standing by the ocean… it was so pleasant! I just love the ocean and enjoyed this little respite!

Seeing good friends and supporters

June 18, 2018

This past weekend we went to a town in central Pennsylvania where there is a small church that has supported us for our entire 40 years of ministry. This church is so encouraging to Kent and I and we always come away refreshed!

40 years ago we stayed with a couple that had 2 of their boys about 6 and 8 years old as well as a daughter and older son. These two little boys grew up and are still in this church.. one of them Peter has a son that is 6 now.. and he remarked that his son is the age that he was when he first met us. Wow! That gave all of us perspective on how long this relationship has been. We now stay with this son that is grown up and has several children of his own. We love Peter and Melanie and all of their children.. their older son just graduated and daughter is not far behind. We had a great relaxing time with them. We also saw Ron and Joyce, as Ron traveled with Kent on a missions trip. Ron and Joyce have supported us for many years as well. It was fun seeing their house and garden and his paintings! And Peter’s parents also traveled to Mali, W. Africa on a work team with our whole family. Great memories!

We also stopped in another town about an hour away that another supporter lives in. Thelma has supported us faithfully for many years as well.

And before we left on this trip my aunts and uncles on my mother’s side have been meeting together for lunch every month and so we caught up with them at the restaurant. Some couldn’t make it but we enjoyed those that could.

God is giving us many good visits and we are so grateful for all of these wonderful, supportive people!

Visiting long time friends and supporters

June 4, 2018

Our next stop was in Ohio. We have had some friends and supporters from this area since 1984. A church here supported us and through the church we had some individuals who also supported us. One of the couples Doug and Jo had a dinner for several of our friends in the area. They also hosted us for a dinner the first day we arrived as well! Thanks Jo for all the meals!

Doug had arranged for us to park on the church’s parking lot and that was a bit help too! Thanks to all of you for your kindness and support over these many years!

One evening we saw this beautiful view…

We also had some other long time friends in he area but they didn’t know these others. Cindy and John came as newlyweds to help us in Alaska in the early 80’s. They were a group of 4 young people helping with VBS in our church and other projects that we needed doing. Since then they have 4 children all grown up now and two married that will soon have their first grandchildren.

We have tried to maintain contact over the years but haven’t seen the. For 9 years so it wa a treat to be able to see them again too! We needed much more time then the short almost w hours that we had…John is a teacher and had to get to work.. They found this quaint restaurant and we all had breakfast together.

As I said, we needed much more time to chat and catch up..but perhaps that will have to wait for heaven! It was great to see them and see how they are doing and hear a bit about their wonderful family! May God continue to bless you and your family, John and Cindy!
