Hey, what are you doing now?

July 9, 2019

Lots of people have been wondering where and what we are doing since Kent’s dad’s celebration of life. … well, we have been living in our RV house on their property and helping mom. Kent still does his work for WorldVenture from our RV and when he had spare time, he worked on a roof of one of the barns with a friend that was paid to organize and do most of the work.

If you look closely, you can see that the roof had totally rotted out in a large area there. So they had to do a lot of patching as well as replace the entire roof.

I helped to clear out brush from the other side of the roof up to about 10 feet high. It was a massive undertaking as well, but our friend and I did this so he could work in the the roof easier. I also helped my sister-in-law, LeAnn plant dad’s two gardens and we have been weeding, watering and now enjoying some of the produce. It seemed a good year to do this!

I have been trimming bushes, trees and generally cleaning up around the farm. Then when it was allowed, to burn all that brush I did that too.

We have also been helping to care for mom. We knew that Kent’s sister needed a break so we did most of the care, although mom doesn’t need a lot! So 2-3 visits a day to help her or to chat and to take her a treat of food that she likes. One day, we washed and packed up all of her mother’s dishes. Her mom passed away in 1985, so most of these dishes had not been seen since. We found one small cup that her mother had been given when she graduated from high school. So sweet!

Mom is in the process of moving to an assisted living apartment. It is hard to move away from your home of 60 years but now that she is a widow, she realized that she should.

We do have some other friends in the area. We also tried to help and encourage our dear friend Ed. His wife, Goldie is in memory care facility. Ed, is like a second father and a grandfather to our children and great grandpa to our grandchildren. We love he and Goldie so much so we were glad to be able to spend time with him and Kent even helped him sell some specially tools online.

What we will do and where we will end up… only God knows right now, we are trying to stay open to God’s leading in that! If you think of us, Pray for God to show us what else we should do,

Ministry trip to Portland

May 8, 2012

Kent and I flew to Portland, Oregon for a few days last week. Kent had a pastor’s conference to go to and to help with presentations. I went along to visit his sister and brother-in-law now living in Vancouver, Washington (just north of Portland). I went because we had a free flight due to soaking of our luggage last spring. The flight had to be used before May 1st.

So Kent took off for the pastor’s conference and LeAnn, his sister and I had fun. We worked out, we went to a Bible Study. I got to meet lots of her new friends. We went to a thrift store and to the IKEA store. And we just hung out and enjoyed one another. I saw Ken, her husband in the evenings as they get up around 3:30 am any work day. I couldn’t quite make it up that early but I tried getting some things done after they went to bed at 8-8:30pm.

Kent came back from the conference on Friday and Ken had taken off on Saturday so we all had fun doing fun things together on Saturday. We ran around Vancouver, Washington most of the day. We even got to see the old Fort Vancouver as it was free that day. At the end of the day we went back to their apartment and went to the hot tub and sauna on the premises. Nice! Ken had grown a bit more beard since we last saw him.

Ken and LeAnn April 2012

We got back to Phoenix in time to say our  goodbyes. We had gone to lunch with several other “volunteer” friends and then had some time to sit around and visit. We even had time for shuffleboard. It was my first time to play it too.

Our small group Bible Study from our church went out to eat to end the year and they were kind enough to do it when we could still be here. Goodbyes to this group are hard as we have been a part of it now for 4 years. People come an go and it is changing a little bit each year but we are grateful for these dear friends.

God does give us new friends wherever we go and we do thank Him for these good people.  We do pray that wherever you find your self that you too have a good group of friends to surround you, that care about you and pray for you.
